What Is a Meme Coin?
A meme coin is a cryptocurrency inspired by an internet meme, joke, character or online community. Attention and speculation often influence its price more than a product's revenue or a technical development plan.
Some meme coins, such as Dogecoin, have their own blockchain. Many others are tokens issued on networks such as Ethereum or Solana. A familiar name or ticker does not uniquely identify a token: different projects can use the same branding.
What are the main risks?
Prices can change sharply, liquidity can disappear, and buyers can lose the entire amount they invest. Scams, concentrated holdings and token permissions add risks. A popular community or a high ranking does not establish that an asset is safe.
